Key Features

App

Crypto.com is primarily a mobile based exchange and say that they, "prefer to build mobile first." With this in mind, the Crypto.com mobile app seems to deliver on this promise with strong ratings for both iOS and Android devices.
Through the app you can buy and sell a large selection of crypto, earn rewards by staking, manage your prepaid visa card, send crypto to other users, and more.

Metal Visa Cards

Crypto.com offers a range of 5 metal prepaid visa cards where you can earn rewards as you use the card. The card levels from lowest to highest rewards are: Midnight Blue, Ruby Steel, Royal Indigo and Jade Green, Frosted Rose Gold and Icy White, and Obsidian.

In order to qualify for these cards, you must lockup a certain amount of CRO, which is a utility token designed by Crypto.com to help facilitate transactions within its blockchain. The amount of CRO you need to lock up for each card can be found below as well as the rewards the card pays.

After you have met the CRO lockup requirement for the card you want by completing the application process through the Crypo.com App, Crypto.com will send you your card. Rewards are paid out instantly in the form of CRO tokens to your wallet within the app. Additional benefits can also include a Spotify, Netflix, and Amazon Prime rebate, airport lounge access, and other travel benefits for the higher tier cards.

Crypto Earn

Crypto.com currently allows you to earn crypto by staking 21+ cryptocurrencies and stablecoins. Staking might sound like a complex idea, but essentially, you are pledging your crypto to help validate transactions on the blockchain. In exchange for doing this, you can earn crypto rewards.

The APY that you earn varies on a variety of factors. The primary factors include the token you decide to stake, the amount you decide to stake, the amount of CRO you have locked up in your Crypto.com wallet, and the length of the term you select.

Crypto.com Pay

As the name implies, the Crypto.com Pay feature allows you to make purchases using the Crypto.com app and earn rewards for doing so. Crypto.com works with a variety of online retailers that allow you to make purchases using 30+ cryptos directly through the app. You can also purchase gift cards directly through the app at over 300 brands using your crypto. Finally, you can send and receive crypto to and from your friends.

In exchange for using this feature, Crypto.com will pay you rewards in the form of their native CRO token. The amount of rewards you can earn will vary depending upon how much CRO you are currently staking. If you are staking at least 10,000 CRO you can earn anywhere from 2.5% to 10% cash back in CRO. If you are not staking CRO, you can earn 2.5% to 5% cash back in CRO.

Number of Cryptos

Crypto.com has a very good selection of crypto available to be bought and sold with 250+ options including all of the major cryptos such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano, Solana, XRP, and much more. We should also note that Crypto.com does support the ability to buy, sell, create, and collect NFTs in addition the standard crypto offering.

Security

Crypto.com uses industry standard two factor authentifiaction and whitelisting to protect your account. Deposits are stored in offline cold storage facilities and are stored 1:1 meaning that your funds are always available when you need them. Additionally, US dollar balances are kept at third party banks which carry FDIC insurance to protect deposits.

In addition to account security, Crypto.com also has a variety of security certifications including ISO 22301:2019, ISO/IEC 27701:2019, ISO/IEC 27001:2013 and PCIDSS v3.2.1 Level 1 compliance. Crypto.com also works with independent third party security companies to audit and test security practices.

In spite of these security measures, Crypto.com was hacked early in 2022 which resulted in hundreds of clients losing an estimated $35 million of combined assets. Crypto.com encourages users to follow safe security practices including using a unique email, setting unique passwords, enabling multi factor authentification, and not sharing any of your account information.

Cost

Similar to other crypto exchanges, Crypto.com uses a maker-taker tiered pricing models which can be seen below.

Volume of $250,000
or less
Volume of $250,000+
to $5M
Volume of $5M+
to $10M+

Crypto.com also states that the fees listed above can also be reduced depending upon how much CRO you are staking. We were not able to find the exact discounted rates and how much CRO you need to be staking to qualify.

Fees can also be incurred depending upon your payment method when you buy crypto. Bank transfers usually do not incur a fee, but there is a  2.99% fee for credit/debit cards.

Finally, Crypto.com does have withrawal fees for each individual crypto that can be bought and sold on the exchange.

Customer Support

The customer support of Crypto.com is light at best considering how many clients the exchange supports. The exchange currently only offers a online help center and support via an online chat feature with a virtual assistant.

Other Details

One other detail that is worth mentioning is the DeFi Wallet offered by Crypto.com. The wallet allows you to browse DApps, deposit your NFTs, swap tokens accross multiple chains, store and manage all of your crypto, and send your crypto to other wallets.

Advantages of Crypo.com

The biggest advantage of Crypto.com is the attention to building a mobile first exchange. If you are an investor that values having the convenience of mobile accessibility, Crypto.com has an edge. All of the features discussed above integrate well within the app. Some secondary advantages of the exchange include the large offering of crypto, as well as the potential for low fees when you fund your purchases using bank transfers.

Disadvantages of Crypto.com

The first main disadvantage of Crypto.com is the poor customer support. For an exchange that supports 80 million clients, the customer support options are just not good enough. Secondly, the fees for debit card and credit card purchases are quite high. Although you can get around this with bank transfers, it should be noted that Crypto.com does not support every bank.
